BB&C Newsgroup Guidelines

BB&C supports a number of newsgroups designed:

• to keep members informed on club activities,
• to allow them to express their concerns about the club,
• to interact with other members,
• to obtain help, or
• to just chat.

The newsgroups are open to all members except for a few restricted access groups. Cross-posting (to two or more newsgroups) is not encouraged. While we encourage members to abide by the guidelines, we do not normally enforce them. Our aim is to encourage communication.

Open to all Newsgroups

• bbc.announce - Open to all members, but members should not normally post to this newsgroup without reason. Reserved for announcements of official club activities, not for idle chit-chat. Select and read this newsgroup to keep informed of club activities. ("Allmembers" messages sent to members with an email address in our database are copied here. To limit "spam" to our members, only directors may authorize "allmembers" messages.)
• bbc.binaries - used for exchanging non-commercial binary files. Please use this newsgroup rather than attachments to send another member a binary file through our system.
• bbc.club-business - Use this newsgroup to make your ideas and concerns about the club known and to comment on announcements or club activities.
• bbc.forsale - Find bargains or sell your "junque". Primarily for, but not restricted to, computer related sales and offers.
• bbc.genealogy - A newsgroup devoted to the interests of members interested in genealogy and their Genealogy SIG.
• bbc.general - Anything within reason goes. Chat and discuss any subject. Make new friends. Communicate with your fellow members. Idle chat encouraged.
• bbc.hardware - Discuss or ask for help on computer hardware.
• bbc.newsletter - Communicate notices to the newsletter team for publication. Also conduct general newsletter discussion.
• bbc.photography - Photography and digital image editing.
• bbc.seniors - A newsgroup devoted to the interests of seniors and their Senior's SIG.
• bbc.software - Discuss or ask for help on computer software.

Restricted Access Newsgroups

• bbc.admin.exec - Used by the executive to discuss club policy. Restricted to directors.
• bbc.admin.mailcc - "cc" of official club email, usually to and from outside organizations. Restricted to directors.
• bbc.admin.sysop - Used to discuss coding and security matters of the club systems. Restricted to the sysop team.
• bbc.admin.volunteer - Routine club business. Restricted to volunteers nominated by the director responsible for their duties. (If you are a BB&C volunteer and believe you should have access, contact the director you report to.)
• bbc.admin.training - Used to discuss training policy and procedures. Restricted to the Training group.
