Using Wildcat with a Terminal Program
For those who prefer text
| WC index |

I like text terminals —what is involved accessing Wildcat with programs such as Procomm, Telix, or QModem?

A. You may use your existing terminal communications program to call Wildcat at the same number — 382-7470. If you like scripts for automated mailruns, they are being developed — they work the same as scripts on PCBoard.

You use the same name and password as on PC Board.

You are then led to the Main menu.

We encourage all our users to read their messages and create their replies off-line. If you are just converting from using QWK on PCBoard, most of the following will be similar to what you would do in Rosemail or Qmail but I will give a fuller explanation so that those who haven't been using off-line mail will perhaps be able to do so.

Wildcat has its own built-in QWK mail. It can be accessed by typing T for the QWK/REP Menu.

As with Rosemail and Qmail on our PCBoard BBS, you must initially set up a few basic things such as whether you want to receive the new files list, new bulletins, your own messages, etc. To do this, select Y to set your QWK settings.

(continued)

After completing that task, it is time to select the conferences you want to read. So you type S.

When entering a New high message number, we recommend that you use -20 to collect the last 20 messages posted. You can always go back and reset the message pointers if you find the messages interesting.

Repeat selecting conferences until you have selected all your conferences, and then return to the QWK menu. The steps above only need to be done once (unless you want to add or drop conferences).

Once you have selected the conferences you wish to read, download a QWK packet by selecting D on the QWK Menu. If you selected the conferences without selecting the message pointers, you may get a very large packet the first time. It pays to restrict the number of messages by setting your message pointers (to -20 as mentioned above).

When you select d for download, Wildcat will show you the number of messages in each of your selected conferences. You can either press Y to get them and then return to do other tasks, or you can type G and you will be logged off as soon as you receive the QWK packet.
