Big Blue and Cousins

Members' News—July 2007

by Mary Davie

T here are a number of new members to welcome since the last newsletter. They are Beverly Fraser, Kimiko Knight, Bill MacLennan, Cynthia and Bob Pattison, Laura Fellman, Fabricio Sosa, Valerie Berthiaume and Richard Bloomfield. Happy computing with BB&C to you all.

These are just a few of the people and their activities at the Clubhouse. They make it the popular place and give it the friendly atmosphere which draws people into the Clubhouse on a regular basis.

There was a suggestion from one of our members that it would be fun to document a day at the Clubhouse during Social hours. This could be any Tuesday, Saturday or Sunday. So here goes with a typical afternoon. The Clubhouse is and has always been a place for members to go and talk, ask questions, get help and generally socialize in the best sense.

There are quite a few regulars and some have been around for a very long time. Some of the best known are Ron Kehn, Ron De Beck, Bob Garneau, George Bowden and Art LeBel. There are others but space does not permit listing them all.

Art brings in his laptop and a lot of the time he turns it on with a caricature of himself on the screen and a caption "This is my laptop". Others soon join him in the back room at what I call the laptop table. Ron Kehn seems to like the coffee as he has a minimum of three cups each session. He and Ron DeBeck (the two Ronnies) are always ready to help anyone with problems with their computers or software. Bob Garneau is almost always teaching someone something as George Bowden is busy fixing a member's computer. And then there is Margrit Norton who comes in with intriguing question about anything and everything computerwise and writes down all the instructions.

Our President Joan McIlmoyl Cleghorn is often in for the social time as well as her duty time. Rolande Kimmons is the one everyone waits for as she always brings in some "goodies" like the chocolate covered marshmallows she brought recently.

Stacey Falconer is another regular but is usually hunched over the club computer in the back room doing the magical things which keeps everything going for us online.

These are just a few of the people and their activities at the Clubhouse. They make it the popular place and give it the friendly atmosphere which draws people into the Clubhouse on a regular basis.

Many thanks to Art LeBel for the suggestion and much of the content for this column.
