Volunteers of the month for June 2006
Members Who Help Others at the Clubhouse
by Grant Fuller
he volunteer we are recognizing this month deserves all the accolades and bouquets we can offer. This is a person, who without their ever present commitment and dedication, there would be no club. This is someone who is reliable, kind and helpful.
If you were to go to the clubhouse during any of the social and CAP hours with a computer problem, you would be another testimony to the vast knowledge and support this volunteer provides.
One of the most puzzling but admirable qualities we need to recognize here is the fact that this information and personal assistance is available for free. Why would anyone work for free? Well, it is probably similar to the attitude of professional athletes these days, it is not about the money, it is about the love of the game. There is no doubt that BB&C members, as well as those who have been acknowledged as “Volunteer of the Month” are in this because of the love of the game. We are not interested in getting into the record books and if any of us are involved with steroids, it is not in an effort to catch Babe Ruth, it is usually just a case of bad skin condition.
So, if it is not for money and not for fame, do you really believe its for the love of the game? And who among us is the one we should thank for being there when we have been attacked by our own computer and the confusion and frustration have us at the end of our rope. When we go to the clubhouse, glassy eyed and fearful, and ask “can anyone help?”
The volunteers of the month for June are the BB&C members who serve as MICs and those who are so often in the clubhouse during the times when others can bring their questions. The regulars who are willing to share and give back to the club with gratitude for what has been freely given to them. We know to say “thank you” is not enough, but thank you.
