Government House Fire Anniversary Photoshoot

by Charlene Brown

T he ceremony marking the 50th Anniversary of the fire that destroyed Government House in 1957 was covered by members of the Digital Camera SIG on April 15. The 'Report' photo by Louis Coppen's (top left) 'sets the scene' for the photoshoot, while Rolande Kimmons presents a uniquely-framed version of the same setting (top right). An antique fire truck that was actually used at the fire is shown in front of the portico—the only part of the building that survived intact. Also on display was a modern Victoria Fire Department truck.

Photographers also had access to the banquet (see cover) and reception areas to take pictures of elegant furnishings under very challenging lighting conditions. Margrit Norton claims the perfectly exposed and flare-free chandelier (second row, left) was "just lucky".
