Staples Presentation at the April Monthly Meeting

by Charlene Brown

R eaction to Angela Bethell's presentation on custom printing and binding was so enthusiastic, I half-expected to see everyone who had been at the April meeting crowded into the copy department the next time I went into Staples. It looks like a lot of us have on-going projects that have been on the back burner just waiting for this information about their expanding services!

Reaction to Angela Bethell's presentation on custom printing and binding was so enthusiastic, I half-expected to see everyone who had been at the April meeting crowded into the copy department the next time I went into Staples.

Ms Bethell seemed to have a couple of favourites she was pushing—Staples' half-price colour copying special (Sorry, it ended a week after the meeting, but they do it every April, so plan ahead, as some of their customers already do) and Plak-It laminating, a good-looking way to protect and display pictures up to 36" by 40" in size. These two topics drew quite a few inquiries.

As well, there were many questions about specific aspects of almost every topic covered in the rapid-fire presentation. Other areas of interest were: specialty paper and card stock (postcards—yes, watercolour paper—no, in case you were wondering), an impressive range of invitation, announcement and business card styles, precision colour-matching, and wireless binding. In addition to Cerlox and spiral binding, they have various kinds of attractive and durable glued binding, some with the option of adding or changing pages, including clear plastic or custom printed covers, and even hard covers for books up to an inch thick.

Staples' excellent turnaround time—even on large DTP projects or roll laminations that are handled at the larger facility in Langford, or services such as embossing and customized business forms which are done in Vancouver—was emphasized throughout the presentation, which finished up with a mention of their efficient on-site postage and courier service.
