hat a rainy month we have had. I hope we get some October weather in November to make up for having November in October! We welcome some new members this month. They are Lennie Estell, Lannie Yee, Hugh Wilson and Dale Brouard.
We would like to give a special welcome to a returning member, Cody Gregory. Cody was a member from 1991 to 1999 and in that time she was the Membership Director for 1991-1992 and Wildcat! Sysop in 1998. Great to have you back Cody.
Let’s give a hearty welcome home to Randy Esdon who arrived home on HMCS Winnipeg in October. We missed you, Randy, but your great Letters from the Gulf were much appreciated and gave me, and I am sure other members as well, a much needed glimpse into navy life and work.
We have had a few people under the weather this month and hope they are all feeling better. One was our hard working Clubhouse manager and Librarian, Vicky Dillaun-Calhoun. Vicky contracted shingles, a most painful condition, and we hope she will soon be better. We can all help her out by doing anything we can to keep the clubhouse neat and tidy as she shouldn’t be overdoing it for awhile.
One of the most energetic holiday trips taken this summer was by Les Hudgins. Les is an experienced and avid bicyclist and has made many interesting trips both locally and far afield. This year his trip was the Evangeline and Lighthouse tour in Nova Scotia organized by Dan McGuire for the Cross Canada Cycle Touring Society. The tour started on August 31st and finished on September 15th. The 21 participants started at the Halifax airport, cycled across the province to Windsor, and then followed the coastline to Digby, Yarmouth, Shelburne, St Margaret’s and back to Halifax, (my comment is “Whew!”). This was a self-supported tour with nightly accommodation in motels. Les commented that the first day out found them cycling in pouring rain and many spandex garments were hung about the motel rooms at the end of the day. After that, the weather was great and scenery was superb.
Congratulations to Margarita Huang for her several photographic entries in the Sidney Art Show at the Winspear Centre. This is another major juried show in which her work has been shown lately.
See you at the Club …
Special Thanks to Mary Davie
When I joined the group going to Raincoast in Tacoma, I arranged with Vicky to look after my wife for an hour on Saturday and Sunday. When Vicky was advised by her doctor after I had left, that she should not come, she contacted Mary on very short notice and Mary took over.
Thanks Mary—and Vicky. —Les Benson
